DIRECTV DVRs with TiVo in stock . . . older units

We’ve been accumulating a stock of DIRECTV TiVos in preparation for the discontinuation of the line. We’ve put up a page full of these older TiVos on our site. We’ve got a variety of models.

Some important notes on these units: they don’t require any paperwork for us to ship, unlike the R10s. So if you order one, you can basically put it in your closet and sit on it if you want – you don’t have to activate it within any time frame, or ever. But you probably can’t qualify for the DirecTV rebate if you don’t activate one, at least for a short period.

Next, some of these units are more disposed towards adding features. If you dig around the web, you’ll find lots of features that can be added to DirecTV TiVos. The R10s generally can’t use most of these hacks, but these units can. So if you want a new box to use to experiment, you can find one here.

Finally, we’re really not sure how long we’ll have these. We do have more various units coming, but if you know you want one, best bet is to get it soon. Once they’re gone, we likely won’t be able to find more.

R10 Scarcity

TiVo/DirecTV R10 DVRs are getting harder and harder to find. It seems that Circuit City, BestBuy, and Amazon are all out of stock on these. And since they’re out of production, there are no more to come to these retailers. We reported a few weeks ago that DirecTV is sending out R15 DVRs to people who call to ask for “TiVos”. So we can only assume they’re out also. We still have stock on these – we made a big purchase before they were all gone – but we won’t have them forever. If you want one, get it soon . . .

More of the largest TiVos ever . . .

500 GB drive supplies are getting a bit more plentiful, so we’ve added some other configurations. Now, you can get the highest-capacity TiVo ever – 1300 hours in a Series 2 standalone unit. This is the first unit to solidly break the 1000 hour barrier – but don’t forget, that’s at the lowest quality recording level. At ‘Best’ you get about 360 hours.

We also have the R10 with 900 hours and the Humax DVD combo TiVo with 600 hours. And a few weeks ago we debuted the first ever terabyte TiVo as the HR10-250 HD TiVo with 130 HD Hours.

So we have three different terabyte models now, plus the DVD unit with 500 GB. All are running quite well (cool and quiet) with these new Seagate 500 GB drives. We’re starting to add kits to the site where appropriate – but if you don’t see what you want, as always, email us.

Mac TiVoToGo in beta

Fortunately, I’m better with upgrading TiVos than I am with a digital camera.

Here’s a picture:

We used the Mac version of TiVoToGo and we’re pretty happy – this certainly demonstrates progress on the Mac front. The interface is smooth and polished – and just getting official Mac support back is great.

Picture of the Taiwan TiVo

Haven’t seen a picture of this anywhere on the net. It’s the TiVo made for use in Taiwan. If you know what you’re looking for in the menus, you can find it, because they’re almost identical to the US models. It’s based on the 5400X0 architecture.
