New Cart – New Coupons!

We’ve just updated our online cart to greatly increase the speed of the checkout process, and to take advantage of the latest security enhancements.

Our checkout is now entirely done on one page using AJAX and it’s fast! Come try it out!

DirecTV HD TiVo Update

The update is:

No update. Sorry. We’re still hearing 2010.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to get some sort of update, we just can’t get anyone to talk about the release date. But we decided to post on the blog because we get SO many inquiries about this. We think this will be a very popular product.

Of course, since our two biggest interests are TiVo and DirecTV, we may be uniquely positioned to hear from everyone who wants information. But it’s a lot of people, generating a lot of pent-up demand.

If you want the latest news (when there actually is some), we’d recommend you:

1 – Sign up on TiVo’s list for DirecTV information.

2 – Sign up on our general list for TiVo and DirecTV news.

3 – Watch this blog.

4 – Follow us on Twitter.

UPDATE: We received a call today, 11/17/09, from a representative at TiVo, who said they had solved this problem. Now, when you are going through guided setup, the TiVo will limit the number of dial-in numbers, and may also limit the area codes. If you need additional numbers or additional area codes, you will be presented with the ability to get more numbers at the bottom of the list. Thanks, TiVo!!

We have had a few customers recently report problems dialing in their new TiVos from big cities. We had a customer in Los Angeles and another in San Francisco face the same problem: During guided setup, immediately before the second dial-in call, the TiVo mysteriously reboots.

After a bit of research (and reports back from customers), problem is that there was a recent surge in the number of available dial-in numbers. Some zip codes have in excess of 300 possible numbers, which causes the TiVo to seize up and reboot. We were able to reproduce the problem using our own zip code.

Until TiVo solves the problem, there are two solutions:

1) Network your unit, rather than use a phone line.
2) Call TiVo customer support and tell them the problem. They will work to find a zipcode that (a) has fewer dial-in numbers, and (b) has your same cable provider and lineup. Once you enter that ‘magic’ zip code, the problem will go away.

If you’re looking for a standard def TiVo, these are perfect units. They can burn shows to DVD from your TiVo, or from an external source like a video camera. And they have all the regular TiVo features including the peanut remote, online scheduling, Season Passes, WishLists, etc.

We have these units in several capacities from 40 hours on up to close to 1000 hours.

And we have two varieties: the DRT400 and the DRT800. The DRT800 includes a FireWire port for grabbing video from a video camera and saving it to the DVR for viewing, or even for burning to DVD. The DRT400 can still import video from a camera or VCR, but only through analog inputs.
