Information about adding capacity to TiVo and other DVRs
We just added the kits to our site for getting 2 Terabytes of storage on your TiVo HD or TiVo Series3. See the kits at the bottom of each list:
So these kits come with two 1 Terabyte drives – one internal and one external. And they have to work together. This is the most storage capacity ever on a TiVo!
We’ve been selling these for a while, but we finally put them up on our website as one entire product. It’s a TiVo Series3 with a one terabyte internal drive, and a one terabyte external drive. Both are used together to allow you to record up to 292 hours of HD, or 2777 hours of SD, or, as is pretty much always the case, a combination of both.
Starting today, we are now officially selling external upgrades for the two TiVo-brand HD units. In some cases, units will need to be sent to WeaKnees for us to perform the “marriage” of the two drives. Please see our TiVo HD External Storage page for full details.
We still strongly recommend internal upgrade solutions for these units for several reasons including space, heat, stability, and ease. But TiVo’s addition of the ability to use external storage just gives us another way to help users get more capacity in their TiVo units, validating what we’ve been doing for years.

UPDATE: Many have expressed interest in getting an eSATA case with a Seagate DB 35 hard drive in it. Two of the three externals we offer have DB 35 drives: the 500 GB and the 750 GB.
We are happy to announce that we have started shipping upgrade kits for the TiVo HD DVR. We expect to have upgraded TiVo units shipping shortly. We will be getting a large shipment of TiVo HD units—plenty to cover our existing orders. For pricing and additional information, please see here.

This unit can record up to 145 hours of HD content, or 1368 hours of SD content.
The ONLY way to find the page where we have these is through this blog entry. We have a very limited quantity of these units, so we’ve been selling them by request only. We don’t expect to have good stock until late June.
Please note: the price is a bit high on these, reflecting the scarcity and price of the 1 terabye SATA drives. We do expect the price to come down a bit at least by the end of the summer, hopefully sooner.
