TiVo DVRs Experiencing “Failed While Negotiating” Errors (N17 / N18)

Today we have had a significant number of TiVo customers report problem with their Series 2 and Series3 TiVos. Specifically, some TiVo DVRs are getting the error N17 ( Failed While Negotiating) or N18  (Failed While Configuring) or, in some cases, simply “Negotiation Error” on some of the earlier TiVo models. This occurs both with TiVo’s connecting via phone and that are networked (whether wired or wirelessly).

According to TiVo, they are aware of the problem and are working on a resolution. Evidently, the problem does not impact all TiVo users, but we have been unable to discern why some are getting the error and others are not.

Our best suggestion at this point is to just wait it out. Hopefully the problem will be resolved within a day or so. Typically, TiVo is quick to resolve problems once they are aware of them. This one seems to be impacting quite a few customers, so we hope to see the problem fixed quickly.

iPad App is out for TiVo Premieres

Two great products that go great together?

If you’ve got an iPad and a TiVo Premiere, you’re in luck.

If you’ve got a TiVo Premiere, you may want to get an iPad. And if you’ve got an iPad . . . I’ll leave it there.

Here’s the link: TiVo’s iPad App

While we really like the TiVo Slide Remote, and we also like the regular website, this app has just tons more features and polish, and makes a true companion to using your TiVo Premiere. And, best of all is the price: free.

“Call Interrupted” Problems Seem to NOT be Resolved . . .

We previously wrote about TiVo DVRs having problems dialing in – specifically getting “call interrupted” errors.

Then we wrote to say that TiVo had alerted us that they had fixed the problem.

Well, unfortunately, I’m back to say, that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least for all users. Plenty of our customers are still seeing these dial-in problems. So if you are also, you’re not alone.

TiVo is on the case, but feel free to email us more info on your situation if you’d like, and if you include your 15 digit TiVo Service Number (TSN), we’ll pass it on to TiVo while this problem persists.

TiVos get Season Pass Manager Online!

TiVo announced today that TiVo users who have a tivo.com account can work with their Season Pass Managers online.

This feature is available at tivo.com/SPM – pretty easy to remember.

People have been asking for years, “How can I copy my season passes from my old TiVo to my new TiVo?” We’ve always said it couldn’t be done. Now it can!

(click for a bigger version of the image)

You just line up the two units in question, and copy away. Finally!

And if you just want to reorganize the order of your Season Pass list, you can do that here, too. My initial investigation of this is that it’s much faster than doing it on your TiVo, and it’s clearly easier to drag with a mouse rather than scrolling with the remote.

Here’s how you can just drag around the order of the items:

There’s potentially more in there that I’ve missed, so dig around and post in the comments if you find anything!

TiVo Slide Remote is Here – Program with QWERTY

In stock and shipping today at $89.99, the new TiVo Slide Remote contains a full QWERTY keyboard. This means you can enter long search terms faster and more easily. We’ve been asking for this for a while and we’re excited that it’s here!

The remote is like a shorter, fatter version of the standard TiVo peanut. It’s even shorter than the original Series1 remotes – yet it contains all of the buttons of the newest remotes – and, of course, more.

Slide open the top like a cell phone to reveal the full keyboard, and type away!

More great features of the TiVo Slide Remote:

  • Backlit, like the TiVo Glo remotes
  • Learning, so it can work with many more TVs and receivers
  • Uses BlueTooth – no line of sight needed!

The TiVo Slide remote works with any TiVo Series3 or TiVo Series4 DVR including the TiVo HD and TiVo Premiere lines. This remote will NOT work with Series2 or earlier DVRs, or with DirecTV TiVos.

Order a TiVo Slide Remote today!
