Series1 TiVos Getting “Call Interrupted”

If you’ve got a Series1 TiVo (Sony SVR-2000 and Philips HDR series) and you’re getting a lot of “call interrupted,” you’re not alone.

We’ve been getting a LOT of inquiries via email and phone from people having this problem. We’re pretty sure it’s not a problem in the TiVos themselves, but rather at TiVo HQ. There are just too many reports for this to be a coincidence.

Over at TiVoCommunity, there’s a whole thread on the issue full of people experiencing these problems.

So, while we’d love to sell you a replacement hard drive or an external modem, we really think the best move is to sit tight and see if TiVo sorts this one out.

UPDATE: Looks like this does NOT just affect Series1 TiVos. I’ve been corrected by several people here at WeaKnees that this is happening with Series2, HD, and even Premiere units, not just with phone lines, but also with network connections.

TiVo Premiere Replacement Fans

I’m surprised to say that we’ve had several requests for fan replacements for the TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL. Usually, if a unit isn’t a few years old, no one has problems with fan noise. For some reason, people are finding these units to have loud fans earlier in their life cycle. We really haven’t noticed this issue here, but we’re pretty much dealing with new unit here still.

DirecTV DECA and MRV Configuration Wizard

We know that the world of networking your DirecTV equipment can be a little confusing, but the new DECA products make it much, much easier. In most cases, you won’t need to run any additional wiring to get your compatible units networked together, and even to connect your system to your broadband internet access.

Most of our customers just want their Multi Room Viewing. And we’re here to help.

DirecTV’s DECA components are the key to making this work seamlessly. But, as a new product, we’ve been getting tons of questions about what parts to get for each room/receiver in the house.

TiVo Suggestions and Default Settings

Here’s an email we get a lot – and something I always forget to post on the blog: auto-record of TiVo Suggestions.

When customers get a new hard drive from us (we’ve got them for every model TiVo) and they install it and set it up, they find that it’s recording a lot of shows that they haven’t requested. And, shows they don’t want.

This is happening because TiVo Suggestions is on by default – and the new drive is using the default settings. And why are they shows you don’t want? Your thumbs-up and thumbs-down history was on your old drive. So the new drive has very little info to offer to the Suggestion engine.

OK – here’s how to turn it off. Go to:

Settings -> Recording -> TiVo Suggestions

and choose No!

That should do the trick. Now you can just delete the accumulated shows. If you have folders on, you should see them all in a folder marked “TiVo Suggestions”.
