We’ve received reports that DIRECTV has resolved the nationwide problem of DIRECTV TiVo units rebooting. We have posted many times about the issue. We notified DIRECTV’s engineers. The Consumerist posted a story quoting DIRECTV as saying that this impacted a “small number” of customers.
Judging by the volume of phone calls we have been receiving, it’s a VOCAL bunch, if a small one. I would guess that we’ve received an average of 300 calls per day that this issue was ongoing. Small potatoes for DIRECTV’s call center, but it slaughtered our phone system here at weaKnees. Sorry to all of those who called and got “please check the blog!”
Anyway, the good news is that DIRECTV has reportedly resolved the matter, so everyone can watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade without commercial interruption AND “Welcome, Powering Up” every 20 minutes!

Thanks again, guys! Glad you’re here.
Thanks Guys, just got home and there was a voice mail from DIRECTV telling me it was fixed and that they are issuing a onetime $10 Credit. I also opened my e-mail and got the same information from them.
You guys and DIRECTV are great…..doubt if I would have got the same service from a cable company. (That’s why I got rid of cable in 1994 and went with DIRECTV.)
Any technical info on what the issue was? Something similar to older firmares not being able to deal with local channels?
Guess what. At 7:15 pm Eastern time both my Series 2 rebooted at the same time. Called Directv and they said it was repaired at 12:34 pacific time but it might take one more reboot to fix the problem. Stay tuned.
Just got this note from directv today 11/22/2012 after having one of my series two recievers rebooting every few minutes for the last week and not as often for weeks. I finally ordered a replacement hard drive yesterday from wk. This afternoon after this notefrom Directv, the same tivo has been working fine without any reboots for over nine hours… It would have been nice for directv to own up to the issue earlier
“This is an important message from DIRECTV about your TiVo receiver. We are aware that you may have experienced a software issue that was causing your TiVo to reboot frequently. We want to assure you that we worked diligently with TiVo and resolved the issue yesterday.
Due to this inconvenience we will be applying a onetime $10 discount to your account; this will appear as a credit on an upcoming bill statement.
Thanks again for being a loyal DIRECTV customer. We truly appreciate your business.
Sincerely,
DIRECTV”
So, can I return the power supply that wasn’t the problem, and the hard drive replacement that I won’t need (and haven’t received yet, due to arrive Monday)?
All software updates were completed at 02:30 PST Thursday morning….Check the status in your settings.
As of Nov 26, I am still getting reboots on a type-1 DirecTV TIVO DSR6000. Has the DirecTV issue been fully resolved?
@John: You can email us to request return instructions.
@Ericd: DIRECTV says they have resolve it; you might have an other issue with your unit.
