DIRECTV has done an amazing job of producing components to make networking their HD DVRs very, very easy. Essentially, they’re using the same SWM cabling (pretty revolutionary stuff in and of itself) to also carry your network to your DVRs.
The idea is that, with a DECA adapter, you are now able to attach your DVR to your other DVRs, creating a network. And, if you put a DECA adapter on your router (you’ll need the power supply for that) then you’ve just connected your DirecTV DVR network to the internet! So you can do Multi-room Viewing ($3/month DirecTV charge) and use the internet apps, on-demand, etc.
Further, the latest HD equipment from DirecTV, the HR24 and H24, have DECA built-in. You just plug in a SWM cable, and you’re on the network.
