There’s no question we get asked here at WeaKnees more than “When is the new DirecTV TiVo HD coming out?”
Man, do we wish we had a good answer.
Both DirecTV and TiVo have generally only gotten as specific as “2010.” And that’s all we’ve been able to repeat to everyone.
But, recently, DirecTV has posted a couple of tweets that narrow down the 12 month window to, maybe, a four month window. They’ve used the terms “early next year” and “first part of 2010” in their posts.
Yes, this is important breaking news, and it’s definitive.
Now, if only we had some clue as to features, pricing, looks, availability, etc. . .

Maybe Dish Network will lose me. Hear that Dish Network?
Will Weaknees be selling the Directv unit? I heard that it might only be sold by Diretv. I hope the answer is yes and the latter is a bad rumor.
We expect to, and we haven’t heard the rumor at all. Got any links?
Glad to hear you expect to be selling it. I am waiting for it and would rather not buy through Directv and their lock-in terms. Sorry I don’t have any links. I recall reading about it in one of the many audio rags, but can’t recall which one. I am classifying it as pure speculation and was looking to see if there was anything to confirm or deny it.
Won’t be switching here, been using two HR21 Pro’s for over a year with zero issues.
Loyal DTV customer since 2004. I originally subscribed because they had partnered with TiVo, and was thrilled with the offering. But now, I have one TV with that original TiVo box and it could fail any time now, and another TV with a DTV HR box that I got in 2007 and the software/performance is a joke.
I had high hopes for the Microsoft/DirecTV offering, but so much for that. I also had high hopes to see a new DirecTV/TiVo device in 2009, but no dice, and practical silence from DTV on what’s going on.
I have had it with waiting for DirecTV to provide a new offering that’s exciting and works well. Here’s where I’m at:
If DirecTV offers a new TiVo solution, but with the crappy/slow HR hardware, I will cancel.
If DirecTV offers a new TiVo solution, with good hardware, but doesn’t give me at least one box for free, I will cancel.
If DirecTV offers a new TiVo solution, with good hardware, but increases my monthly bill in any way for it, I will cancel.
I’m tired of waiting for DirecTV to do right by their loyal customers.
I also have had directv with tivo since 2004, when I bought my new house. I switched from cable. We have had a small-ish TV since then, and not really needed HD. But this X-mas we got a 46-inch, and now you can tell the difference between standard and HD. However, I really like the Tivo interface, and don’t want to leave it.
But if this new receiver does not come out soon, the cable company will be coming to my house.
Fudzilla reports that it’s likely that DTV (and TiVo?) will make an announcement regarding the vaporware HD DirecTiVo at CES later in the month. True or not? I have no idea, but I’m cautiously hopeful and just dreaming of the day I no longer have to use my DTV POS DVR.

Considering that DirecTV isn’t even on the list of exhibitors, I’m not sure how that would work, but I’m certainly hopeful.
Your days are numbered, DirecTV. Enough already. No official word from you on exactly what you’re shipping, your advertised timeframe is far too general, and this thing has already slipped at least once. Enough.
The good and trustworthy folks at Engadget say you’re new Tivo platform will be based on your old and crappy HR boxes.
Every tech blog on the planet was sure you’d announce *something* about your Tivo plans at CES. Why? Well, because it made sense.
And yet here we are, mid January 2010, and we’re still entirely in the dark.
Your days are numbered. Give us something concrete, and soon, or it’s adios DirecTV.
According to this, it won’t be until the end of the year.
That’s just some forum shlub speculating. According to Engadget, TiVO has something to announce on March 2nd. And the DirecTV Twitter feed still insists that the product is on track for the first half of this year.
Still, this has gone on long enough. I’m convinced these two companies are either lazy or incompetent and are just begging to have their market share stolen.
I’m guessing that since it’s the verge of April, they really didn’t mean “Early 2010.”
Man, I’m so frustrated waiting for this thing, it’s just gonna be anti-climactic no matter what they put out.
I never thought Tivo would overpromise and under-deliver, but here we are.
Unless this thing knocks my socks off (such as sharing HDTV across multiple tivos thru the ethernet) I’m going to be disgusted.
Remember folks…they were supposed to put this out way back in mid ’09. We’re now approaching mid ’10, and there’s no end in sight, and no word whatsoever.
Sheesh.
Bad news, folks. TiVO CEO Tom Rogers tells CNET’s Molly Wood that the Directv TiVO won’t be around until “later this year.”

That’s right. We’ve gone from “sometime 2009”, to “early 2010”, to “first half 2010”, and now it’s “later [2010].” And who knows what it will slip to next. I’m sure “early 2011” will be next.
My Freaking Goodness. Enough is enough. We had some great times together, but now it’s time to say goodbye.
